ai Design Group is not only all over the geographic map but also the market sector spectrum, from motorsports to healthcare, and it's been getting lots of press attention for the makeover of the former Cotswold Professional Center into the new HQ for Sonic Automotive(a total conversion of the ?70s-era building into a modern-looking structure with fully functional telecommunications infrastructure). So we met with ai Design's Kim Marks, Wes Jones, and John Weller, who tell us they came together in 2003 to create ai Design after years at the former Omni Architecture. (That's the trio pictured above in front of Niki De Saint Phalle?s sculpture of jazz man Miles Davis at The Green uptown...it was hard to hear them with this statue trumpeting in our ear.) But the firm, which employs about 20, is licensed in 26 states, most along the Eastern Seaboard. It does design work for clients that include grocery stores, marketing firms, and heavy equipment manufacturers. And we can't forget Charlotte Motorsports.
