MULTIFAMILY PROJECT TARGETS SENIORS

A Wilmington-based company is planning a multifamily project aimed at seniors and people in need of skilled nursing care on about 17 acres at Providence Road West and Old Ardrey Kell Road. Liberty Healthcare Properties has filed a rezoning with Mecklenburg County to allow construction that would include 162 independent living units and a 120-bed nursing facility. Brightmore of Charlotte would also include rehab and recreational buildings, as well as support facilities, Liberty development director Doug Whitman tells us. The company's seeking a change to institutional from mixed-use. (No project cost, yet.) A public hearing is scheduled for July 18.
