WSP, who last week signed for 47K SF of new Birmingham city centre offices, is to design the new Birmingham Curzon Street HS2 station.

WSP will be working for Grimshaw Architects on the city centre project. Grimshaw are already designing the London Euston HS2 terminal.

Ove Arup & Partners, working with Arup Associates and Wilkinson Eyre Architects, will design the Birmingham Interchange HS2 station.

Together with two contracts for London Euston and Old Oak Common, the contracts are reported to be worth £60M to £70M.

Arcadis, who took 25K SF at Bruntwood's Cornerblock, Birmingham, were short-listed but missed out.

HS2 Ltd, who are overseeing the London to Birmingham HS2 expansion, have also announced the contractors for two London stations — Old Oak Common and Euston — but made no similar announcement for the two stations. The London station builds will cost £1.65B and £1.3B respectively.

The new HS2 stations will be designed with input from local communities, using best practice principles from stations around the world, and guidelines and specifications endorsed by an independent panel of leading architects and designers.

"Our new stations in London and Birmingham will be at the heart of the first phase of the project, increasing capacity, improving journeys and helping to unlock opportunities for tens of thousands of new jobs and homes around what will be four new landmark buildings," HS2 Ltd Chief Executive Mark Thurston said.
