| No, this isn't a scene from Indepedence Day. The hotel would be built on top of the arena on land owned by Whiting-Turner CEO Willard Hackerman (Citybizlist reports he'd kick in $500M in funding). The convention center expansion includes building a 760k SF East Wing, doubling the center's size. That'll be paid for with public money, and the Sheraton Inner Harbor and its parking garage on Charles and Conway streets would be demolished to make way for the project. It's also not all about commercial buildings: the plan includes transforming Rash Field into a public park, complete with volleyball pits. Yes, that makes it a project that'll spike construction activity and our serves. |
