DOWNTOWN COLUMBIA'S NEW DIGS

Tuesday's announcement by The Howard Hughes Corp that it'll partner with Kettler on 375 new residential units in Downtown Columbia means the submarket will see its first market-rate apartments in over 10 years. (To think, third graders have lived their entire lives in a world bereft of market-rate apartments.)
CEO Bob Kettler, whom we snapped at our NoVa Multifamily Summit in August), tells us, "We're really excited because it gives us our first opportunity to take advantage of BRAC growth at Fort Meade. Howard County is an untapped market and the jobs coming there will only make it stronger.?
Here's the site. Investment SVP Asheel Shah (a Howard County native whose first job was at Columbia Town Center's Great American Cookie Co) says Kettler will submit its site plan this month and construction will start as soon as it gets approval. The project will include 14k SF of retail.
