Yesterday afternoon, we called up 28 Walker?s Abe Rosenthal, the right-hand man of Mark Sapperstein, for the latest on Canton Crossing. He tells us the utility lines are under construction, and the shopping center will open in October 2013. He expects a good portion of the leases to be signed by year's end (hint: anchors always jump to the front of the line). He can't say what tenants, but the names that have been knocked around are the ones you'll see, he says. (On an unrelated note, anyone wanna go practice some Target shooting and then hop on over to Sapperstein?s McHenry Row to pick up some dinner at Harris Teeter?)
Abe tells us leases are in the works for 90% of the 320k SF center, leaving a few slot spaces and, along the center?s public green space, a specialty restaurant location. Abe?s not leaning either which way in the local vs national chain debate, but he's also not in a rush to squish any old operation in there. In the spots already committed, you can expect apparel stores, a makeup shop, a phone store, a bank, and other restaurants. Canton Crossing will serve a three- to five-mile radius in this underserved market, though some of the retailers that have only one other Baltimore location will have a broader reach.
