Batman has his cave. Superman his Fortress of Solitude. For the crew at Fifth Street Management, it's a nearly secretive 13th floor of a Midtown office building. We met with president Harry Conley, property manager Sharon Joseph, and COO George Lipscomb to discuss innovations in the security program at Centergy in Midtown. Specifically, Fifth Street Management's new Kastle System security program, which allows the firm to reduce security manpower while enhancing the effectiveness of the remaining staff. For instance, the software analyzes camera images to detect potential security problems such as the presence of objects and people where there should be none. The security staff is notified instantly of exceptions, George says. Harry mentioned that the software is always on duty and has an unending attention span. The manpower reductions are saving the property about 7 cents/SF, says Joseph. In a typical week, they are alerted to about 50 or 60 security threats, most of which they would have been unaware of without the system, he tells us.
