But it's not the landlord to blame—it's the tenants who tend to bring the bedbugs from home, says Greg Zarek, SVP of NY-based Metro Pest Control. As you see in this pic there are telltale signs—droppings,bloodstains and itchy, bitten workers. They hide (the bugs, not the workers) in cracks and crevices as small as 1/32 of an inch and can survive without a blood meal for more than a year, Greg notes. He offers this advice to landlords wanting to avoid a ... uh... bloodbath: Hold regularly scheduled inspections, use chemical sprays monthly since they act as a residual deterrent, and avoid trendy treatments like heat or freezing, or even bedbug-sniffing dogs, which aren't as effective as is claimed. |
