Samsung Latest Corporate Giant To Bring HQ Operations To Plano

AT&T will soon have a major corporate headquarters neighbor in Plano.

Samsung Electronics America plans to move its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Plano by the end of the year. The move is part of a business transformation designed to position the company for long-term growth and future success, according to a statement sent to Bisnow

“The transition, which will be completed by the end of the year, is intended to strengthen alignment across teams and offices, and sharpen our focus on the areas that will drive the greatest impact for our customers, partners and business,” a Samsung spokesperson said in a statement.

The company will relocate its headquarters to its existing campus in Plano, building upon the South Korean electronics giant’s three decades in the state, according to the spokesperson.

Most of the approximately 1,000 employees at the company’s current headquarters in Englewood Cliffs are likely to be reassigned to the Dallas suburb, according to The Korea Times, which first reported the news. A small portion of the company’s existing New Jersey employee base is expected to forgo the move to support operations at the location.

“As part of this strategy, we will be optimizing parts of the organization to ensure our roles and functions align to key business priorities,” the Samsung spokesperson said. “We recognize such adjustments will have an impact on our people and we will be providing support to those affected.”

Samsung's existing regional headquarters campus in Plano’s Legacy Central business park supports nearly 2,000 current employees, according to the Plano Economic Development agency.

New Jersey Assemblyman John Azzariti told NJBIZ the move should be a wake-up call for his state, as “Texas didn’t win Samsung by accident.”

“They won because they have spent years creating an environment where businesses want to invest, grow and create jobs,” Azzariti said.

The planned relocation will mark the second major move to Plano this year, following AT&T’s January announcement that it will move its global headquarters to the city of nearly 300,000 residents.

The global telecommunications titan’s new $1.35B global headquarters in Plano will have more than twice the amount of space of its current 1M SF Whitacre Tower building in Downtown Dallas. The 54-acre campus at 5400 Legacy Drive will have 2.3M SF of building space, a 280-foot cell tower, a daycare center, parking garages and a pedestrian bridge.

AT&T is targeting an initial move-in date during the second half of 2028, CEO John Stankey said earlier this year.
