DC on World Games Stage

Placeholder

DC will be host to the World Police & Fire Games, one of the biggest sporting events in the world, next June. The event has been held annually since 1985 and draws 12,000 athletes, who compete in similar sporting events to the Olympics, which had 10,700 athletes in London. The group behind the DC event next year is a small nonprofit called Fairfax 2015. President/CEO Bill Knight says the organization, which now has 40 people, was formed to bid on the games and now organize them for $20M. Most of the events will be held at George Mason University’s Fairfax, Va., campus.
