Since the recession, there’s been a shift toward inviting construction and design teams to collaborate earlier in the process. Pacific Building Group’s business development director Allison Simpson says that architects and contractors are engaged at the start of most company projects, flushing out budgetary questions early on, before design finalization, and providing for more efficient construction scheduling. This collaborative team environment reduces the unknown elements, Allison says, helping clients save money while maximizing the achievable design and construction elements. Allison also sees that, while projects are getting larger, clients are not always taking more space. Instead, they are being more thoughtful about how they use the space they occupy. In the past, spaces were more closed off and traditional, while today’s environments are created to both maximize the use of floor space and enhance the employee experience.
