Why the Waterfront Reinvention is a Game Changer for Seattle

The reinvention of Seattle's waterfront has been a long time coming (something like a trip to Pluto), but the payoff is getting closer by the day. That's why we're excited to present Bisnow's Waterfront & Beyond event at Hyatt Olive 8, beginning at 730am on July 21.

Among our speakers will be Urban Renaissance Group founder and CEO Patrick Callahan, who tells us the redevelopment of Seattle's waterfront is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reconnect the city to its front porch, Elliott Bay. Concept designs from the architect, James Corner Field Operations, are underway.

Patrick adds that some of the biggest challenges and outstanding questions for the project as it moves forward will be how to effectively program the new parks and open spaces. In addition, he wonders how to ensure the open spaces remain activated year-round, and not just in summer.

Another speaker will be Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority executive director Ben Franz-Knight (here at the recent groundbreaking for Pike Place MarketFront). Ben says Seattle shoppers and visitors from around the world will have more opportunity to “meet the producer,” with 47 additional tables for farmers, craftspeople and artists. "With the MarketFront, we're creating a vital new connection to our waterfront and restoring an east/west connection between the waterfront and the Market, and Downtown," he says. Come hear from Ben and the rest of our all-star panelists at Bisnow's Waterfront & Beyond event at Hyatt Olive 8, starting at 730am on July 21. Sign up here!
