San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a $25M expansion project. The museum has chosen Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY Architects to lead the design.

The 12k SF expansion will be above an existing wing of the museum facing Hyde Street, according to Curbed. Upon completion, it will be one of the city’s largest exhibition areas. It's not the only S.F. museum getting a cool addition. The new SFMOMA expansion is set to open this summer.

The Asian Art Museum project will be privately funded, with most money coming from the museum’s board. Work is slated to start in 2017. [Curbed
