Calvert Woodley Sells, But Won't Develop (Soon)

One of DC's premier wine sellers, Calvert Woodley Wine and Spirits, has sold its building on Connecticut Avenue for $6.8M, but owners say the business isn't going anywhere. The shop's owner, Ed Sands, maintains that "nothing's going to happen to Calvert Woodley," the Washington Business Journal reports. The purchaser, Chevy Chase's Polinger Shannon & Luchs, looks at the property—just steps from the Van Ness Metro and apparently prime for a higher-density redevelopment—as an investment. The new lease for Calvert Woodley, named the No. 2 liquor store in DC by Washington City Paper's readers, could last for longer than three decades. [WBJ]
