A series of federal real estate projects could move forward in the D.C. area under a new budget proposal from the government's real estate arm.

The General Services Administration submitted a $10.93B budget to Congress, an increase from its previous $9.07B budget, the Washington Business Journal reported.

The budget includes $253.8M for the Department of Homeland Security headquarters at the St. Elizabeths West campus in D.C.'s Congress Heights neighborhood. This year's funding is specifically for a 618K SF building to house the new headquarters of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

The GSA proposed $89.2M to renovate and modernize its own regional office building at 301 Seventh St. SW, where it would bring in some DHS offices. It sought $64.8M for the renovation of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

It requested $51.1M for renovations to the William Jefferson Clinton building at 1200 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, and it proposed $20M for renovations to the Suitland Federal Center in Prince George's County.

The agency also welcomed a new leader this week. President Joe Biden's nomination for GSA administrator, Robin Carnahan, received Senate confirmation Wednesday. Earlier this month, the GSA appointed Andrea M. O'Neal as its first senior adviser on equity.
