As it prepares for the departure of John Germano, CBRE has named a new leader for its 1,500-person Baltimore-Washington region.

The brokerage firm selected Executive Managing Director Kyle Schoppmann, currently CBRE's Tri-State Region head of occupier services, to fill Germano's position on Jan. 1.

Schoppmann, who joined CBRE in 2007, will oversee the firm's D.C., Tysons, Bethesda and Baltimore offices. Under her leadership, CBRE's New York City office inked 5.9M SF of tenant representation deals and 4M SF in landlord transactions in 2016. Those deals included a 900K SF lease with S&P Global and a 418K SF lease with Major League Baseball.

“My experience on the New York Tri-State leadership team has been incredibly rewarding and has prepared me for my next challenge as CBRE’s leader for the Greater Washington DC/Baltimore Region,” Schoppmann said in a release.

Schoppmann also serves as the executive sponsor of CBRE's Tri-State women's network and leads its U.S. diversity strategy, along with Americas CEO Jack Durburg. With her new position, Schoppmann will join Cushman & Wakefield's Roberta Liss as a woman leading the mid-Atlantic region for one of the three biggest U.S. brokerages.

Germano in August announced his decision to leave CBRE after 17 years with the company. The Marine Corps veteran has not said what he will do after his departure at the end of the year, though he said he would not join a competing firm.

“I have known and worked with Kyle for more than a decade. She is a talented leader who is well-positioned to guide CBRE to new heights of accomplishment,” Germano said.
