Why is Capitol Riverfront BID chief Michael Stevens so happy? Is it the over 2.5M visitors expected to pile in to Nats Park this season, or the $1.4B in public investment made in the neighborhood over the past few years? At a briefing on the neighborhood's new projects yesterday at Forest City's new offices at The Yards, we picked up a few big takeaways that have Michael excited: 41% of Capitol Riverfront's residents are Millennials (only Dupont has more), and six new restaurants will open in the neighborhood this year. The potential additions of office tenants CBS Radio and the National Association of Broadcasters, both rumored to be looking there, doesn't hurt either.
We also snapped ForestCity's Ramsey Meiser pointing out the future of The Yards. Ramsey says to watch out for an announcement within a week or two on a partnership ForestCity will create on a condo project there.
On our way out, we couldn't help but snap ForestCity's glassy new digs in The Yards' Lumber Shed building, which dates back to before World War II. The Lumbershed's got 15k SF of retail space on the ground floor, with a few restaurants already open and a few more on the way.
