AUCTIONING WITH THE STARS

The  numbers aren't all in from Henry S. Miller’s first commercial real estate live auction in the Metroplex since the late 1980s, Monday at Prestonwood Country Club, but preliminary indicators look pretty darn good. Keep watching DFW Bisnow for the figures. Until then, look below for one of the celebs whom we snapped before bidding commenced on the two dozen properties estimated at $100M.

Here's Cowboy great Emmitt Smith, known now as CEO of ESmith Legacy, getting a warm greeting from HSM retail division prez Vaughn Miller. Success may be Emmitt’s middle name: from winning Dancing with the Stars to being the only running back to win a Super Bowl, NFL MVP, rushing crown, and Super Bowl MVP in one season. He’s working on translating that success to his CRE ventures. Emmitt told us he was interested in the retail properties.

Before the auction, HSM’s head honcho Vance Miller, with president Sam Kartalis, said he didn’t know what to expect, but noted that the first two weeks in December are traditionally a slow time, so the interest in the auction was promising.

This is actually a video, but nobody's moving for fear of the dreaded accidental bid. It was standing room only for spectators, while the VIP bidders had front billing. HSM investments head Robert Grunnah told Bisnow today that HSM is still assessing the auction results, but it's very pleased at the turnout from qualified buyers and the energy this relatively new process generated. He thinks the auction vehicle will be a strong disposition structure in the months to come, “and we fully intend to exploit it.”

HSM’s “Broker Brothers” Drew  and Pete Richardson have potential buyer Jim Elmore surrounded. Jim was checking out the process and  searching for a bargain property. Pete and Drew had one of their listings in the auction, 6913 W. Camp Bowie in Fort Worth. The nine-acre site with 157k of warehouse space went for about $1 million.

Southlake attorney Richard Kilgore checked out some of the properties listed. He is repping one of the buyers in the auction and will be working on the contract end of things.

HSM’s Chris Colombe and Lane Kommer flank potential buyer DCS Ventures’ Sean Effune. Sean was tight-lipped about what properties interested him but said he did have his eye on a couple of retail centers. We think he meant at the auction. Though it's possible he was struck at that moment to just do some holiday shopping.
