Pan Am Games Facilities Take Home (LEED) Gold

Five new facilities for next month's Pan Am Am Games have earned LEED certification from Canada Green Building Council. CIBC Aquatics Centre and Field House in Scarborough (above) got LEED Gold, as did Atos Markham Centre. Earning LEED Silver were CIBC Athletics Stadium at York University, Cisco Velodrome in Milton and CIBC Soccer Stadium in Hamilton. Facilities have green roofs, geothermal energy and rainwater irrigation, among other eco-friendly features. “With the global exposure of the Pan Am Games,” CGBC chief Thomas Mueller notes, “it was critical to ensure that buildings of this type and scale are built to leading sustainability standards.”
