The 2015 Pan Am Games kick off exactly a year from today, and we have one more reason to be excited: Corktown Common has its official opening today. The 18-acre park is located in the new West Don Lands community, the site of the athletes' village. It's the centrepiece of this new mixed-use community, which is being built by Waterfront Toronto on transformed industrial lands. The park sits atop a massive flood protection land-form, designed to save the city from an overflowing Don River. The West Don Lands will have 6,000 new residential units and commercial space, including an 82k SF YMCA and 500-bed residence for George Brown College. (Not to mention the smell of victory that will forever envelope it.)
