Missouri Baptist Teaming With Select Medical For New St. Louis County Hospital

Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania-based Select Medical Corp. is opening a 38-bed specialty hospital — a "hospital within a hospital" — on the fifth floor of Missouri Baptist's main tower. Select, which will own and operate the facility, has leased the space, the St. Louis Business Journal reports.

The new facility will count as a long-term acute care hospital, which accepts patients who need to be hospitalized more than 30 days, and who need complex care for conditions such as severe infections, slow-healing wounds, respiratory and heart failure, and post-surgery recovery.

For-profit Select operates three LTAC hospitals in Missouri, and more than 100 nationwide. The company filed for a Missouri certificate of need, seeking approval for the Missouri Baptist project in 2014, estimating the cost of the hospital at $6.6M.
