A West Coast developer announced the completion of a residential project that represents the first step of the Alameda Marina Master Plan, the East Bay city’s plan to comprehensively transform the northern waterfront on the shore of the Oakland Estuary.

Pacific Development Partners announced Thursday that Launch, its recently completed coastline apartment project in Alameda, features a 500K SF building with 368 residences, a sea wall and other amenities, the first part of a larger redevelopment of the waterfront area.

“Launch will offer increased access to the waterfront and outdoor amenities with unparalleled views of the Alameda Marina, Oakland and San Francisco’s skylines, as well as a chance to be a part of the historic Alameda Island community within a new, modern setting,” Pacific Development partner Sean Murphy said in a statement.

In 2018, the Alameda City Council, representing a town of about 80,000 made up of three major islands in the San Francisco Bay, approved the Alameda Marina Master Plan, which called for the redevelopment of the northern waterfront.

All told, the redevelopment plan creates 1.2M SF of mixed-use development on 44 acres, calling for the creation of 530 new marina slips and 760 new residential units, including at least 104 affordable residences.

The Launch project will also feature a walkable path in front of the Oakland Estuary, which fronts the project, and access to the San Francisco Bay Trail. Alameda has a significant maritime history, as the city functioned as an important shipyard for the Navy during World War II.
