The proposed fine against Airbnb (and other homesharing platforms) has passed 10-0 in a City Hall vote. It would penalize these companies $1k/day for each unregistered listing on the platform.
Supervisors David Campos and Aaron Peskin proposed the measure in late April after finding that nearly 75% of all S.F. listings on Airbnb were unregistered with the city and deemed illegal hotels, Curbed reports. City officials view illegal hotels as a particular problem since they reduce housing stock available for long-term tenancy.
While there was a suggestion Airbnb would take the law to the courts, Campos previously told Bisnow his bill was legally sound and could withstand challenge. [Curbed]
