Theres nothing like a fine spring day for hoisting that final beam. We were on hand recently when the final beam, signed and adorned with an evergreen tree, a Franklinia tree and an American flag, was put in place for the expansion of the Franklin Institute. Slated to open in June 2014, the new 53k SF Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion will include an education and conference center, along with a gallery housing a permanent exhibition entitled Your Brain. (When we lose our minds, well know where to look.) Skanska USA is building the structure, which will be LEED Silver.

Another project recently topped off is Phase 1 of the Lighthouse Cover Dewey Beach Report, a mixed-use property that includes the first Hyatt Place Hotel in Delaware and 16 penthouse condos, the Residences at Lighthouse Cove, located above the hotel. The project, developed by Dewey Beach Enterprises, had been delayed by Hurricane Sandy last year, but managed to go back on schedule this spring. Dewey Beach is on a sliver of land between Rehoboth Bay and the Atlantic. About 340 people live there year-round, but on summer weekends the population balloons to 30,000 or more.
