Respondents to our recent survey are split, after the City Council committee on finance recently recommended creating a TIF to support the development of a W and Element Hotel at 15th and Chestnut. One says that more hotels are needed to support large conventions, which is an economic driver for Philadelphia. But others weren't so sure: "I doubt we'll see any changes with the state of affairs regarding the Convention Center and the current union issues," another says. "If you build it, they might not come." Another respondent says he'd like to see the funds used to make schools better. "Private money is available for developments that private owners deem worthy of development."
