CityView and Red Oak Investments recently held a naming ceremony for Baker Block, a new apartment community at 125 E Baker St in Costa Mesa.

The project is on a 4.17-acre site that was previously the home of an office building.

The naming ceremony featured speeches by CityView CEO Sean Burton as well as Costa Mesa Mayor Stephen Mensinger, CityView founder and chairman and former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, and Red Oak Investments principal and co-founder Joe Flanagan.

Sean tells Bisnow the "tremendous job growth" in Orange County is increasing demand for housing.

CityView likes to build in areas "that give residents access to local jobs and other amenities," Sean says.

The company wanted to build there, in particular, because Costa Mesa "is one of the largest employment centers" in Orange County, says Sean, adding "local workers need and want housing that is near their jobs."

Johnstone Moyer Inc is leading construction on Baker Block, designed by Architects Orange.
