The city of Stanton has always been considered a scrappy city.
In North Orange County next to Garden Grove, Westminster and Seal Beach, Stanton is not very well known.
At one point the working-class city of about 38,000 residents in 3 square miles had a reputation for gangs and was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Things have cleaned up over the years and a new development could further change the city's reputation.
A partnership between Brookfield Residential and Frontier Real Estate Investments is redeveloping a former blighted 20-acre site along Beach Boulevard into a mixed-use development with retail and residential homes.
Brookfield is building the residential Lantana @Beach with 208 townhomes ranging from one- to three-bedroom two-story homes to two- to three-bedroom three-story homes on 11 acres. The homes will range from 730 SF to 1,800 SF, a Brookfield official said.
Frontier is developing a 100K SF retail center, called The Village @Beach, with about 30 tenants and outdoor spaces where the community can gather. Frontier has already received commitments from Planet Fitness, Chase Bank, In-N-Out Burger and Raising Cane’s.
The partnership broke ground last month. The development is expected to open sometime in 2020.

At a groundbreaking ceremony, Frontier Managing Partner Dan Almquist told Bisnow that this is an important development for the city.
“Our vision for the site is building a place where the community wants to come and spend time together,” Almquist said. “Stanton is the underdog. This is one of the most important projects the city has and it is right on Beach.
“I don’t want to let the city down,” he said.
Brookfield Senior Vice President of Business Strategies Nicole Burdette said she is excited about being part of a project that could help revitalize Stanton.
"This really fits the vision that Stanton is a really great place to live, to visit, with a lot of restaurants," Burdette said. "This is an opportunity to show a different side of [the] city."
"This is going to change that image for Stanton," she said.
