| In her final appearance as chair of the land-use committee, NYC council member and city controller nominee Melinda Katz (fourth from left, with the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater NY's board), keynoted ABO's luncheon at the National Arts Club. She notes that when she became chair in '01, everyone thought the economy was devastated. She knew that if NY wasn't developing or building, it wouldn't get the needed revenue. Today, she urges the administration to keep credit lines open, which would allow people to stay in NYC; this human capital is needed to survive tough times. |
| Best part of the day: ABO welcoming back board member Michael Kerr of M&R Management, who'd been noticeably absent the past few months after receiving a life-saving liver transplant. Michael (with ABO exec director Nicholas LaPorte), a member of the American Liver Foundation's national board, urged luncheon attendees to consider organ donation, both living and after death. He received 65% of his wife Susan's liver through a living donor match, and we are happy to report that both have fully recovered. |
