YESTERDAY WITH LIREG & SAVITT PARTNERS

Bisnow and the sun came out to join the Long Island Real Estate Group yesterday evening for its annual BBQ, softball game, and Olympic team relay races at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Who says networking can’t be fun?
Softball team captains Neal Kaplan of Kabro Associates and Michael Alderman of Alderman & Co. flank LIREG president David Einbinder of First Development Corp. The event, which brought out an after-work crowd of 80, capped a busy month for the group. In June, it held a successful Beachfront Extravaganza at The Aqua condos in Long Beach and raised $75k for three local charities. Last week, David participated on a panel with other vet developers to provide mentoring for members of LIREG’s New Generation group of under-35s at the Cold Spring Country Club in Huntington.
Merritt Environmental’s Chuck Merritt, Deborah Brooks, Hannah Brooks, Phillips Nizer’s Jon Brooks, Merrill Lynch’s Steven Brett, and Hamlet Title Agency’s Michael Harrison. Jon’s environmental practice has been working on the redevelopment of three contaminated properties on the Island, two mixed-use and one retail, while Chuck just relocated his 1.8k-SF office to 77 Arkay Dr. in Hauppauge. And an early Happy Birthday to Hannah, who’s just about to turn five!
There were some mumblings of whether developers had an unfair advantage in the giant Jenga game. Sadly, our team (we joined The Black Foreclosures; call it undercover reporting) was the first down. The color coded teams--Black, White, Yellow, and Green--participated in unique relays, including four-way soccer, duckie races, three-legged sack race, water balloon slingshots, and land skiing.
The overall relay winners: the yellow team of Old Yeller, lead by reigning two-year captain Ken Breslin of Breslin Realty Development Corp (center). “It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there,” he tells us, “and Old Yeller came through again.” In second place was Green, followed by White, and lastly Black, which received booby prizes of rubber duckies. Players did receive consolation in the raffle, which included wine tastings at Martha Clara Vineyards and tickets to any show at the Capital One Bank Theater in Westbury.
