| We snapped Don on the balcony of an upper floor duplex penthouse, showing off the dramatic unobstructed views of Uptown and Central Park to the north. Not only is the building 46 stories without other high buildings nearby, but zoning laws have now changed to all-but-prevent such heights in the future. |
| Don decided not to tell the staff he was coming, but (befitting the Mobil five stars they intend to earn) we found an army of doormen out front at attention, though the celebrity drop-by at that point elicited some frenetic texting. Trump's 391 units include 130 suites and 10 penthouses, and though standard rooms start at $389, they hope within months to push that up to $500 or $600. They created the hotel in part to get around restrictions on permanent residences in a neighborhood that's technically zoned for manufacturing. |
| Don's proud of the youthful SoHo vibe they've created, and not surprisingly the restaurant on premises is Quatro Gastronomia from Lincoln Road in South Beach. The cocktail lounge, library, and two-story entrance foyer are similarly open, fun, and glam. Naturally all the guest rooms are done by ultra-high end Fendi Casa. Although the Trumps are not the developer (it's Sapir/Bayrock), they were actively involved with the design of the property and are managing it through their Trump Hotel Collection brand. |
| Don also took us on a tour of The Trump Org.'s 1M SF, 70-story landmarked 40 Wall Street, where he runs the leasing. But since it's Friday and you're probably itching to get away from the computer, watch out for next week's feature. |
