After a ruptured appendix nearly did him in, New York Building Congress president Dick Anderson seized the decade and ran 18 marathons from ’78 to ’87, logging 30,000 miles. That includes 10 NYC marathons, Stockholm in June 1984 (hence this pic we snapped in his office), and more in Boston, Washington, and Long Island. He also ran plenty of shorter races around New York, many as an active member of NY Road Runners. Stockholm was special, he says, because his family is entirely Swedish and he has family and friends throughout the country. He broke three hours in every marathon but his first and last. His personal best was 2:47:47 in NYC in ’82, and he just missed 2:50 in Stockholm, only because he misjudged the conversion from miles to kilometers.

Leslie E. Robertson Associates' Jason Stone (right, with colleague Ethan Cotton) once ran the Boston Marathon in under three hours and in February ran a 4:56 mile at the NY Road Runners’ Night at the Races. Above, they’re snapped at the end of April’s Runyon Cancer Research Foundation stair run at the 72-story 4 WTC. Jason finished in the top 25 of 700 runners, though we’re sure he simply was eager to check all the structural systems his company had designed there.
