Don’t let Landair’s 13-person office fool you—the project development firm is up to giant ventures in the market. We sat down with CEO Leith ter Meulen and project exec John MacKay, who told us that the historically NY-centric firm, currently providing comprehensive services for the $100M redevelopment of the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, is going international. The firm’s been shortlisted for a new museum and exhibition center for the West KowloonCultural District Authority in Hong Kong and will serve as program manager for a new media venture in Cambridge, UK.

Business overseas is strong, Leith says, noting Hong Kong, China, Canada, and Europe’s growth potential. She says the firm is open to working with foreign companies, especially in the arts and entertainment realm. Current US projects include real estate analysis for the New Museum of Contemporary Art and a charter school expansion in the Bronx. It also recently secured a schedule with the General Services Administration, pre-qualifying them as real estate and financial advisors.
This doubles as our Patrick Swayze Ghost tribute, but its main purpose is depicting a new $25M cultural and educational building, which recently broke ground at the Weeksville Heritage Center in central Brooklyn, a post-slavery African-American settlement from the mid-1800s; Leith is a board member and advising on the project. John has been absorbed at Lincoln Center, with three crews working around the clock in order to assure it’s finished when the New York City Opera season opens on November 3 and the New York City Ballet opens with the Nutcracker in late November.
