New York State senators Adriano Espaillat, Jeff Klein, Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Brad Hoylman expressed support of New Jersey State Sen. Bob Smith's proposal to cap any development directly across the Hudson at 35 feet. The legislation was introduced in May 2014, after LG Electronics proposed an eight-story headquarters that many worried would ruin the view of the Palisades. LG agreed to cut the building down to between three and five stories earlier this summer, but Smith wants to prevent future development from marring the area's natural beauty. In a letter of support to Smith, the New York legislature referenced the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, formed in 1900 by New Jersey Gov. Foster Vorheers and New York Gov. Teddy Roosevelt to protect the park. Espaillat says it's important to ensure the Palisades will be enjoyed by many more generations. [DNA]
