MKDA'S NEW DIGS; SKLAR ON TENANTS

We dropped by interior designer MKDA's new 12.5k-SF green HQ at 902 Broadway to see if new scenery means new projects.
Principals Jeffrey Kleinberg, Daniel DeSiena, and Michael Kleinberg tell us that on top of its relocation, it launched a new Strategic Services Group to help corporations align their facilities with long-term business goals, and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in September. Currently, it's working on projects for Centerview Partners, China Construction Bank, and a Brazilian linen and tableware company looking for flexible, green showroom space with Brazilian flair.
And MKDA knows green. Its new office was designed to LEED standards with features such as zebra wood (you think it'd be easier to spot), sustainable carpet, and lighting fixtures with occupancy sensors and 10-year-span bulbs. The wood garners the Forest Stewardship Council stamp of approval. Its open and transparent design makes it easier to collaborate and even includes "war rooms" for employees to hash out designs.

On top of its project pipeline, they tell us the firm is also working with all the major landlords to attract tenants by juicing up empty space and designing pre-builts.
