After 100 years of mouthwatering cappuccinos and cannoli, Caffe Dante in Greenwich Village is closing its doors, the Gothamist reports. It was unable to keep up with an imposed rent hike, so the Flotta family sold the business and name to an Australian group. The downward spiral reportedly began back in 2013, when the building’s management company doubled the rent, forcing the café to shift its business plan from a casual afternoon or dinner spot to a sit-down restaurant that might appeal to more customers. Unfortunately, the MacDougal Street staple’s fate has been sealed and it could reportedly close in 10 days.
