Flea Market In LIC

We're pumped to hear more about what's happening across the East River tomorrow at ourFuture of Long Island Cityevent. We hopped over there yesterday afternoon to visit a parking lotat 46th Avenue and 5th Street in LIC's Hunter's Point North that Josh Schneps is leasing for several years from Plaxall for LIC Flea & Food, opening June 15 and every Saturday and Sunday after. We snapped Josh (center) with NYC Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer and TF Cornerstone's Sofia Estevez. TF's 820-unit 4545 Center Blvd apartments behind them also open in June. It's the fifth of TF's six LIC residential buildings, and Sofia tells us her company just acquired 300 Livingston in Downtown Brooklyn(now a parking lot and retail building) and will start plans for a residential building there soon. Sofia'scolleague Scott Walsh will share more tomorrow as he joins Jimmy to speak at Bisnow's event.

We also snapped Malu ice cream's Sergio Garcia, who owns the 1209 Jackson Ave shop with wife Jennifer Dudek. Malu will be one of 60 vendors (of 200 that applied) at the flea market, which will be accessible by four nearby subway lines and a bus that connects to the LIC East River Ferry stop. Malu will add a new flavor to its 150 in honor of the opening. Visitors to LIC Flea & Food's website will determine just what that flavor is. In the background, doing his part to support Malu and its strawberry offering: Queens Economic Development Corp's Rob MacKay.

From the flea market site, we snapped the back of PS/IS 312, designed by Gran Kriegel Associates and being built by The DeMatteis Organizations for the NYC School Construction Authority. It'll seat 630 students starting this fall. This view is south toward Hunter's Point South, for which NYC yesterday released an RFP for Parcel C, due July 26. Related and friends are developing A and B. (Curious what parcel will be next? We bet the PS/IS 312 students can tell us.)
