Distressed assets may have tax consequences, like capital gain, so perhaps a 1031 is better, says Asset Preservation’s Pamela Michaels, a featured speaker with Meltzer Lippe’s Steve Breitstone during National Realty Club’s luncheon at the Williams Club. Stephen added that it’s important to get tax advice early in the game when dealing with distress, as sometimes the strongest guy has the most to lose.
