| Much has happened at Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects since we last visited, so we caught up with principal Stan Eckstut in between projects. One of its most exciting isn’t in NYC, but Buffalo. Stan tells us that EE&K designed a master plan (above) for the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp., which is restoring the Erie Canal. The plan re-images the canal as an urban center; the $300M project will be anchored by a 130k-SF Bass Pro Shop, and will include a public market, hotels, historical district, and a potential children’s museum. EE&K is no stranger to waterfront renewal, also working on projects in DC and Cleveland. |

| In NYC, construction at Sites 23 and 24 in Battery Park City is finally out of the ground, with the fraternal twin towers rising 22 and 32 stories (the buildings were jointly designed by EE&K and Costas Kondylis & Partners). Expect completion in 18 months. In Rego Park, building continues on a Vornado-developed big box center on the LIE (above), a unique project for Queens and expected to deliver in three months. Stan notes that it includes a covered public street, the first of its kind in NYC. And the retail portion of its 150-acre Arverne-by-the-Sea residential project in the Rockaways is ready to kick off construction. |
| On the international side, EE&K will open an office in Shanghai in the coming weeks, and Stan notes there are opportunities in Vietnam and Korea. In his spare time, he still enjoys riding horses every possible weekend in Warwick. |
