Trump Claims US Will Pay For Mexican Border Wall And Send Mexico The Bill

Despite famously claiming Mexico will pay for the US-Mexico border wall, President-elect Donald Trump is now saying the US should front the cost and get Mexico to pay for it later.

A Trump spokesman said it shouldn’t be news that Trump plans to seek funds from Congress to pay for the wall, despite his multiple assertions on the campaign trail that Mexico would pay for the project, Bloomberg reports. Trump took to Twitter Friday in an attempt to clarify the situation, writing, “Any money spent on building the Great Wall (for the sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!”

As of now, neither Trump nor Congress has announced any plans to ensure Mexico pays back the expenditure should the US front the cost to build a border wall. [Bloomberg]
