Smoothie King Debuts New Store Design With 200-Plus Locations In The Pipeline

Smoothie King is introducing a new store design as it continues its aggressive nationwide expansion.

The Dallas-based made-to-order beverage company plans to add more than 200 new locations to its roughly 1,200-store footprint.

“After consumer research, Smoothie King refined its interiors with branded artwork and merchandising, including a smoothie-inspired installation made from its iconic red straws, integrated greenery, a redesigned menu board, updated lighting, and a warmer color palette,” the company said in a Tuesday press release.

The new design comes after several years of rapid expansion for Smoothie King. The company opened 74 new stores last year after debuting 84 in 2024.

Smoothie King started 2026 with a targeted incentive program for “growth-minded” franchisees in markets where it is looking to expand. Those include Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The chain is part of the fast-casual sector, which seeks to fuse the quick service of traditional fast food with higher-quality products and higher-end atmospheres.

“The growth in the past few years has been so explosive,” Vivek Sinha, partner with Banyan, a retail developer across Texas markets, told Bisnow last year.

“We speak of it anecdotally, about fast-casuals coming up and taking over, but the growth in market share in same-store sales ... and the compounded annual growth rates far outpace sit-down restaurants to the point that they're becoming a dominant force. They're small setups, but to some extent, they're taking over markets.”

Smoothie King is not the only chain plotting store changes.

The Container Store, another Dallas-based company, plans to reorganize 98 locations nationwide as it prepares to begin selling Bed Bath & Beyond products, according to a press release.

The retailer will celebrate the new dual format with a “Store Changing” event on Friday.
