A national bar and eatery chain is planning a major expansion into California. Bar Louie plans to open 59 locations in Los Angeles County, San Diego County and Northern California over the next five years. This marks Bar Louie’s first major expansion into the West Coast.

The bar previously had two locations in Anaheim and Arcadia before it was bought by a private equity firm. They were closed down several years ago after it was determined they were not ideally located.

The new restaurants will be run by Bar Louie Director of Real Estate for the West Robert Levyssohn. Two restaurants already opened in the Greater Los Angeles Area with one at 9301 Tampa Ave. in Northridge and another at 8860 Apollo Way in Downey. Levyssohn said San Diego County can hold up to eight locations and Los Angeles and Orange counties can hold 32 Bar Louie restaurants. The company also is looking for key locations in San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento. The new locations are expected to create more than 4,000 jobs.

The company is seeking to expand through corporate locations and qualified franchise partners. It also is hoping to attract local entrepreneurs and restaurateurs looking to expand their portfolios. The restaurant offers four revenue streams with lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night. The restaurant was established in Chicago in 1991 and now has 125 locations in 26 states.

CORRECTION, JUNE 28, 12:42 P.M. PT: A previous version of this story did not recognize that Bar Louie had two earlier locations in California, which have since closed. The story has been updated.
