River Park Glen, a 260-unit multifamily development in Fort McMurray, Alberta, was the first property to receive the municipality's Crime-Free Multi-Housing certificate, a program that pushes improvements within a building's environment—for instance, increased lighting, security presence and tree trimming—to help decrease crime, according to Fort McMurray Today.
The building's management company, On-Site Solutions, spent $150k to achieve the designation, which was aided by implementing an assertive campaign of resident screenings and evictions. As a result, calls to police and firefighters have dropped 80% since the process began. [FMT]
