The Dow Jones Industrial Average is gearing up to hit 20,000, a major milestone by many accounts. So what's the significance for investors?
Before the Fed raised rates last Wednesday, the Dow was only around 150 points away from crossing the 1,000-point bridge since it topped 19,000 in late November, MarketWatch reports. It’s true 1,000-point advances don’t mean as much as they used to as the Dow is much larger than it once was.
But Dow 20,000 is a boost for investor confidence as it reflects the health and growth of the stock market. It’s also another gain for Donald Trump, with the Dow poised to overtake a major milestone right around the time he takes offices. [MW]
