Meta is ramping up its investment in artificial intelligence data center clusters, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying Monday it plans to spend hundreds of billions of dollars building out its AI infrastructure.

Zuckerberg detailed the company’s AI infrastructure push on its Threads platform Monday, saying the company — the parent of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — will build “several” multiple-gigawatt data center clusters in addition to the two AI megacampuses it already has in development.
He framed the planned data center build-out as part of an effort to win the AI arms race against competitors like OpenAI, Amazon and Google.
“For our superintelligence effort, I'm focused on building the most elite and talent-dense team in the industry,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post. “We're also going to invest hundreds of billions of dollars into compute to build superintelligence. We have the capital from our business to do this.”
The first of these new campuses is slated to come online next year, according to Zuckerberg. He identified this as Prometheus, a data center cluster the firm is building in Ohio. He highlighted a report this weekend from SemiAnalysis that says this Ohio campus will be the first to deliver more than a gigawatt of capacity.
Zuckerberg also pointed to the massive gas-powered campus in Richmond Parish, Louisiana, that the company calls Hyperion, saying the cluster will scale up more than 5 GW of capacity in the coming years. Still, Prometheus and Hyperion are just the first of what will be multiple AI megacampuses the company plans to develop in the foreseeable future, he said.
“We're building multiple more titan clusters as well,” he wrote. “Just one of these covers a significant part of the footprint of Manhattan.”
Meta, which already pledged to make as much as $65B in data center capital expenditures this year, has scaled up and overhauled its infrastructure efforts in recent months, according to SemiAnalysis — an attempt to keep up with rivals like OpenAI and its Stargate data center development initiative.
Beyond just building more data centers, Zuckerberg has personally led efforts to recruit key AI talent from competitors, offering workers at companies like OpenAI and Apple up to $200M over four years to come to Meta.
