4 Imaginative Skyscrapers Of The Future

For 10 years and counting the architecture publication eVolo Magazine has held an annual skyscraper competition, seeking visionary designs that "challenge the way we understand vertical architecture." Check out the top four plans submitted this year—they are nothing short of wild.

1. New York Horizon

Yitan Sun, Jianshi Wu

This design completely reimagines NYC's iconic central park—the plan proposes to dig beneath the park to reveal the bedrock below, sinking the space and wrapping the entire park in a 1,000-foot-tall "mega structure." This would create a building with a minimal footprint that maximizes living space.

2. The Hive

Hadeel Ayed Mohammad, Yifeng Zhao, Chengda Zhu

This plan pictures a future where a horde of unmanned aerial, drone-like vehicles need their own parking lot. And they receive it—different types of docks are planned to cater for each drone style.

3. Data Tower

Valeria Mercuri, Marco Merletti

This design is for a green data storage center. Since data centers consume huge amounts of energy and require constant cooling, this plan cleverly locates the futuristic storage-skyscraper in a cold environment.

4. Trans-Pital

Chen Linag, Jia Tongyu, Sun Bo, Wang Qun, Zhang Kai, Choi Minhye

This plan is for a space-adaptive hospital in the sky. The key idea of the design is the patient does not need to move himself, instead the patient enters various motion tracks that convey him to the necessary building. [BI]
