A subsidiary of HCA plans to buy the 35.8-acre Old Due West Landfill site in Madison from the city, to facilitate the expansion of HCA's TriStar Skyline Medical Center. The site is vacant, and about 15 acres of it is considered usable for development. The state's Department of Environment & Conservation decided that no site testing is necessary, since there are no environmental issues with the property.
HCA may use it as additional parking. The firm has been busy lately; just last week, it announced it's expanding its Park Plaza campus.
The Old Due West Landfill, though called that, actually hasn't been a landfill since 1973. Metro has owned the property since 1952, and has to approve its sale. Part of the site also includes the historic Bashaw Cemetery, where family members of Revolutionary War soldier Peter Bashaw were buried, though it isn't clear now how many graves it includes.
