Regular power cuts have been a feature of life in the Northern Quarter for the last 18 months, as the area's electricity grid struggles to cope with additional floorspace.
Shops have shut, offices closed for long lunches, and shows and events have had to be cancelled.
Now new infrastructure is being created that will ease supply to up to 120 Northern Quarter occupiers, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Electricity North West are at work for a fortnight on a site at Spear and Oldham streets. They are laying new cables which will help Oldham Street businesses and residents, who have been the most severely afflicted by power cuts.
