Manchester City Council's planning committee will approve plans for 177 storeys of new high-rise residential development in a single afternoon next week.

The meeting on 28 June is being recommended to approve plans for four schemes including a 51-storey tower at the surface car parking site at Chester Road/Mancunian Way. DQ Investments is also applying for a second tower of 21 storeys, and together they will include 664 residential units.

The 4-acre site is in the Great Jackson Street Strategic Regeneration
Framework Area where a 25-tower skyscraper cluster is already envisaged. It is bounded by the Mancunian Way, Chester Road, the former Bridgewater Canal offices and a surface level car park. A report to councillors said that the site includes three cleared sites, which are used as surface car parks, and is crossed by Crown Street, Pryme Street and part of Silvercroft Street.

Other proposals on the agenda, flagged for approval, are:

1-5 New Wakefield St.: a 32-storey building to form 603 student apartments, an increase on the 30-storey tower with 573 apartments approved just six months ago in December. The applicant is Unite Students.

Former Boddingtons Brewery, Dutton Street: two buildings, one up to 17 storeys, the other up to 26 storeys, for 556 residential units. The applicant is Prosperity UX Manchester Developments, advised by Deloitte Real Estate.

Cornbrook Road: two blocks of 15-storeys each, one with 280 residential apartments, the other with a 154-bed hotel and 88-bed aparthotel. The applicant is Glenbrook.
