LACMA is poised for a big $600M makeover.
Swiss architect Peter Zumthor is designing the new 368k SF building, called the LACMA Building for the Permanent Collection.
The new building will have eight semi-transparent pavilions that support a main exhibition level, according to Curbed.
Some buildings, including the Ahmanson and Hammer buildings, will be torn down to make way for the expansion.

The building would extend over Wilshire Boulevard to another LACMA property on the other side of the street.
There will be a “scoping meeting” hosted by LA County at 6pm Aug. 24 to allow the public to give input, according to LACMA's website.
LACMA is expected to break ground in 2018 and complete construction in 2023 when the Purple Line Extension station is scheduled to open on Wilshire. [Curbed]
