Newly acquired by Amazon for $1B, doorbell security startup Ring will leave its Santa Monica headquarters for a new home in Hawthorne in the South Bay.
Vella Group is developing the two-story 62K SF creative office property at 12515 Cerise Ave. M-Rad architecture in Los Angeles will design Ring's new headquarters, which will feature a grand atrium with 30-foot trees, coworking space and an engineering and design wing.
The smart video doorbell and security company will join Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla Design Center in Hawthorne, an up-and-coming neighborhood that has seen housing and office leases spike in recent years because of its proximity to Silicon Beach.
“We are proud to join the list of innovative, forward-thinking companies that call Hawthorne home,” Ring inventor Jamie Siminoff said in a news release. “Our new space will allow Ring to grow as we work to make our neighborhoods safer."

Since launching the company about five years ago and despite being rejected on ABC's "Shark Tank," Siminoff has grown Ring in popularity with a reported 2 million customers using the video-enabled doorbells. Investors in the product include Virgin's Richard Branson and former NBA player Shaquille O'Neal.
Earlier this year, Amazon purchased Ring for $1B in cash in an effort to expand its smart home tech products.
Siminoff said on the company's website that nothing would change with the product and that Amazon's purchase "will accelerate our mission dramatically by connecting more neighbors globally and making our security devices and systems more affordable and accessible.”
Construction of the new creative office campus is slated to begin soon and to finish within the year, according to Vella Group officials.
Ring will relocate 250 employees in the Santa Monica office to Hawthorne.
“Hawthorne has become a hotbed for technology companies seeking sustainable alternatives to creative office space in El Segundo and L.A.'s Westside,” Vella Group's Zach Vella said in a news release. “We are thrilled to play a role in this exciting transformation that will continue to bring good-paying, creative jobs to the city.”
